Broadway Tower Whitley Bomber Memorial Service

Broadway Tower is an amazing folly built on a hill overlooking Broadway. They also have a lovely restaurant and gift shop there which serves excellent food and coffee.

A sadder part of the history here is the anniversary of a Lancaster bomber crash which occurred here on 2nd June 1943.

“At the time of this tragedy, Broadway Tower was being used as a Royal Observer Corps post and first on the scene were two corps members, Albert Lowe and Ernest Hollington. Braving the flames, the two men pulled all five airmen clear and though four were dead, a fifth man was still […]

New Cotswolds book – SECRET GARDENS OF THE COTSWOLDS

The very talented photographer Hugo Rittson Thomas is releasing a new book, Secret Gardens of the Cotswolds with written by Victoria Summerley .
It will be released on the 5th February 2015 but I have already pre-ordered a copy.
The photography looks spectacular and if the text is similar to Victoria’s blog, it will be a great read.

Winter sunshine in the North Cotswolds

We have become Shipston residents relatively recently and have been very impressed by the wonderful winter weather. This year has been especially spectacular with some amazing sunny frozen days.

I was walking Charlie this week with my friend Elaine who has lived in Shipston for more than thirty years and she was saying that most of the time the weather in winter is as good as summer. It is not clear why, perhaps there is a bit of a micro-climate here or else it may have to do with the air coming in from Wales over the Vale of Evesham […]

The changing seasons

Slowly but surely we are coming to the end of a lovely summer. I say that because some of the days we are still having are so lovely that they still feel like summer.
However, most of the harvests are in, the soil has been turned over and the hay bailed.
This year we had especially beautiful displays of rapeseed around us and this is the before and after view.

Our garden however is still a little confused. We still have strawberries sprouting

and our rose bushes are still exploding in new growth

So it feels like there is still a lot of life […]

Beautiful Cotswolds villages

One of the great things about running a B&B in the Cotswolds is that we are just a few minutes away from so many beautiful Cotswolds villages many of the off the beaten track.

It is remarkable that Shipston is surrounded by beautify towns and villages some famous (like Chipping Campden) and some less well known.

Last Sunday turned into a beautiful day so we loaded Charlie into the car and set out from Shipston-On-Stour.

We took a random turning left and drove through the beautiful countryside which is still looking stunning. This area of Warwickshire is surrounded by landscape that looks […]

Cotswolds beauty

Although running a B&B in Shipston-On-Stour can be exhausting, one of the things that still strikes us almost daily is how beautiful the countryside around us is.

On a recent early morning trip to Stratford Upon Avon, the mist was out resulting in this shimmering beauty.

A good walk in these surroundings is a great way to recharge the batteries.

How could you not love living here?
