El Cafe’ is another Shipston enigma.

One of the best tapas bars we have eaten at despite our many visits to Spain.

I remember how disappointed we were on our last visit to Madrid as we tried several tapas eateries and didn’t find anything remarkable.

The best meal we had (if you ever find yourself in Madrid!) was at the lhardy which seems to be a local power broker’s restaurant (definitely not a tapas establishment) with several businessmen and politicians doing their thing while we were there.

The first place we ate when we came to Shipston was El Cafe and we have never looked back. All of our clients who have eaten there have also loved it. We have also had a couple specifically come and stay with us just to eat there.

However ….

There are some things you need to be aware of.

Firstly, the clue is in the name – El Cafe’ is a cafe not a restaurant and seating is limited. If you do not book ahead of time, you probably will not get in.

Secondly, the kitchen closes at 8pm !!!!!!

Last orders are around 7;45pm so check the opening times on the website or make your booking.

We usually have about 6 tapas dishes, 3 cold and 3 hot and this is more than adequate.

They also make excellent pizzas which are well worth a try.

If you are staying with us and would like to try El Cafe’, please let us know and we will book for you.
