Shipston was recently named by The Sunday Times as one of the best places to live in the UK. It continues to grow with new and interesting businesses opening regularly.

This month an old classic has reopened after undergoing a total change.

The George in Shipston has a long and varied history.

There are numerous photos of the George in circulation but unfortunately few of them are dated.

Over the last few years, The George chugged along with enthusiastic staff doing their best to keep everything going.

At the end of 2015 we received the great news that The George had been bought out by the Brakspear Group and that there were great things planned. Brakspear shut the place down and invested huge amounts of money renovating the whole building. They have also moved a dynamic, professional manager in to rejuvenate the whole business.

On Monday night we were fortunate to have been invited to the soft launch of the restaurant.

It is a triumph. The menu is excellent, the staff friendly and professional and the wine list offers a great selection.

My husband had the lamb which he said was the best he has had in a very long time.

We dined with two friends who also thoroughly enjoyed their meals and at the end we tried four different desserts. They were all excellent but the hot chocolate mousse and the rhubarb crumble were especially noteworthy.

The decor is also excellent, very stylish but comfortable.

And for those special occasions there is also a private dining room.

The George Townhouse is an excellent addition to Shipston and we look forward to sending many of our guests there.

Well done Richard and Brakspear.
